Annual Tech Session
H R Motorcars, Inc.
1010 Stewart Ave.
Glen Burnie, MD 21061
Saturday, April 22, 2023
9:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Chesapeake Region of the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club will hold its annual tech session at H R Motorcars on Saturday, April 22 starting at 9:00 am. This event is particularly recommended for newer club members who may have missed last year’s session and for other members who want to learn more about their Rolls-Royce or Bentley motorcar. Our host, Rusty Owens, and his associate, Ernie Morgan, will inspect each car’s engine compartment and underside looking for safety and maintenance concerns. They can answer questions about routine maintenance procedures and ongoing problems. Previous sessions have identified safety problems and deferred maintenance of which the owner was unaware so you may want to take notes. As in the past, Rusty will also generously provide lunch and soft drinks. There is no charge for this event.
Plan of the Day:
8:45 – 9:00 Arrival time
9:00 – 12:00 Vehicle inspections
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
1:00 – 4:00 Vehicle inspections
To register, please reply to Tony Wilner by April 15 at twilner@verizon.net or call/text at 443-514-6695. Look forward to seeing you there!
National Cryptologic Museum Tour
8290 Colony Seven Rd.
Annapolis Junction, MD 20701
Saturday, March 4, 2023
11:00 am
As a follow-on to the recent International Spy Museum tour, the RROC Chesapeake Region will visit the National Cryptologic Museum on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 am. The National Cryptologic Museum opened in 1993 and was the first U.S. Intelligence Community agency to have a museum open to the public. There is no admission charge. Depending on how many we are, we may have a guided tour through the exhibits which highlight the origins of code making and code breaking in colonial and Civil War times, various vintage code-making devices, the evolving computer technology that drove cryptologic advancement, and a couple displays on the 1967 attack on the USS Liberty and 1968 capture of the USS Pueblo intelligence collection ships. Also on display is a large Bombe cipher machine which broke the German military’s highly secure ENIGMA cipher machine in World War II. This museum is the only one of its kind to have an ENIGMA cipher machine that visitors can type on to get the feel of encrypting a message. And like all good museums, there is a gift shop to purchase your cryptologic souvenirs. Previous visitors to the museum may recall a packed array of exhibits. The recent renovation of the museum has resulted in fewer exhibits but on a periodically rotating arrangement.
Directions to museum:
From I-95 or the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, take the exit for MD Route 32 East for Ft. Meade
Follow signs to Exit 10A for Canine Rd. NSA immediately past the exit for the Parkway
Turn left at traffic light onto Colony Seven Road where you will see a blue “Museum” sign. Do not go straight ahead. This is the NSA employees’ entrance. If you do, you will be stopped by NSA Police and detained while they check your identification and vehicle registration.
Follow Colony Seven Road past the old gas station to the museum parking lot.
Lunch:
Around 12:30 we will depart the museum and convene for lunch on your own at the Timbuktu Restaurant, a local but famous restaurant known for its oversize crab cakes. Other seafood and non-seafood options are available. Timbuktu is located almost 7 miles north of the museum via the Baltimore-Washington Parkway at 1726 Dorsey Rd., Hanover, MD 21076.
Directions to lunch:
Turn left out of the museum parking lot and follow Colony Seven Road out
Turn right onto Canine Rd. and go west on MD Route 32
Stay in that lane for Exit 10B to go north on the B-W Parkway
Stay on Parkway about 6 miles to MD Route 100 West for Ellicott City
Take the next exit (#8) for Coca-Cola Drive
Turn left at top of exit ramp onto Coca-Cola Drive
Turn left onto Dorsey Road
Turn left into Timbuktu Restaurant parking lot
Please reply to Tony Wilner by February 22 at twilner@verizon.net or call/text at 443-514-6695 so arrangements can be made for a guided tour and ensure table seating at Timbuktu.

The Chesapeake Region has been invited by the Piedmont Pre-War Car Enthusiasts and Ayrshire Farm in Upperville, Virginia to participate in a 70 mile drive through the Virginia Piedmont. The Piedmond Pre-War club is, as it says, enthusiasts of pre-war cars. But all are welcome to join this drive, but pre-war cars will take the lead and others will follow. So, if you have a pre-war car, it is your chance to give it some exercise. Bring your oldest car. This is a leisurely tour through the countryside, NOT a race.
We will visit a working water-powered grist mill on the Shenandoah River where we will have a box lunch, stop by the Burwell-Morgan Mill and the Old Chapel, Long Branch Mansion, and Bluemont Vineyard, with optional stops at Bear Chase Brewing Company and Barrel Oak Winery and Taproom.
The tour ends at historic Ayrshire Farm where we will have an ice cream social and a farm tour to see the rare-breed cattle, pigs, and horses on this working organic farm.
Cost for the day is $45 per person, not including winery or optional entry fees. The $45 includes lunch and the ice cream social.
We will try to arrange group rates for Long Branch and the Burwell-Morgan Mill (that have entrance fees) once we have a good headcount.
Note: the start and end times listed above are estimates. We will update the exact meeting time once we have more information from Ayrshire Farm.
To attend, please email: joy@ayrshirefarm.com

BMI depicts people who are often over-looked: the workers, small business owners, and others who built our history. Walk through the 1865 Platt and Company oyster cannery; Step into a 1910 pharmacy, tour a circa-1929 garment loft. Stand beneath the 1937 Mini-Mariner, the flying prototype of a WWII PBM flying boat bomber and look outside for the 1906 steam tug Baltimore. Enjoy the interactive Video Game Wizards where you can explore how your talents, skills and passions could lead to a career in the interactive entertainment industry. At the end, you can play your own game. The museum looks out on a beautiful marina, where you can go outside on the deck and see water, boats and a panoramic view.
About the restaurant: The restaurant is only 2 buildings away from the museum, about a one-block walk. Parking is available, however, at the lot in front of the restaurant or a pay lot at the end of the street, if you wish to drive there. Little Havana is on the site of a former feed supply warehouse. The menu is Cuban-inspired cuisine. The restaurant is known for its vintage style decor, fantastic water view and comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant also has shuffleboard, pinball and (depending on reservations) fooseball and pool. There is a large outside patio that overlooks the water and a large garage door facing the water that is open when the weather is good. We will order off the menu, which offers small plates, salads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts, and specialty drinks. Sandwich prices range from $10.00 to $20.00; entrees range from $15.00 to $19.00 (crab cake platter at market rates). Desserts are between $6.00 and $7.00. (No info on drink prices.)
